Residential Care

 Lunchtime in Powell House

It is our aim to provide all residents with a comfortable and happy home suited to their own special requirements. We consult with members of the resident’s family to ensure we have covered all aspects in relation to their well-being and, since the decision to become a resident is an emotionally important one, we consider the first four to eight weeks of their stay to be a trial period.

We provide a single room, all meals, heat and light and the use of other shared facilities, together with such help with personal care as may be needed, for example, help with dressing, bathing, etc. as required. We take care of all laundry of towels, bed linen and items of personal clothing and keep the accommodation clean and in good decorative order, although he or she may wish to decorate their room to their own taste.

Care staff are on duty 24-hours of every day, on call to assist residents whenever the need arises. We operate a Key Worker system and this person will be made known to the resident soon after arrival at Searchlight.

A number of specialists visit Searchlight on a regular and on-call basis and these are available to residents. They include chiropodist, physiotherapist, hairdresser, doctor or nurse (on-call), occupational therapist (on-call) and reflexologist. Those who wish may chose an advocate to visit and speak for them on any matter concerning their care at Searchlight.

Monthly residents meetings are held in each house when residents are updated on future events and encouraged to voice their opinions on anything to do with the running or standards of the home.

All rooms (less one in Powell House) are above the NCS regulations for room sizes.
