Searchlight Today

David by the greenhouse If Muriel Powell, our founder, could see Searchlight today, we hope she would be proud of the changes that have taken place over the last 75 or so years and be delighted to see that the focus today is much as it has always been – the development and fulfilment of the individuals who live and work together here.

She might also note with satisfaction that our community of Searchlight forms an important part of the wider community and both staff and residents are well known in the area.

We aim to maximise the potential of our residents and clients helping them to achieve their ambitions and live as independently as possible. This can only be done if we also recognise that our staff have aspirations which need to be met. We therefore conduct extensive training programmes.

Today residential care is perhaps thought of as a last resort – a place where individuals are placed and then forgotten. Nothing could be further from the truth at Searchlight where we consider it a real success if we are able to help one of our residents return to the community, if that is their wish. If it is not, then we strongly encourage personal development regardless of age and many of our residents take NVQs or other courses to further their development.

We believe that it is the development of the whole person which really counts.
